Glastonbury Submits News Licence

Glastonbury festival organisers have submitted a new licence that will see the festival continue until at least 2016.

The licence that they currently hold only covers the festival for this year, but if the new proposals are successful (and I see no reason why they won't be!) Glastonbury will be around until 2016, taking place again in 2011 and then taking a rest year in 2012.

The application to Mendip District Council also proposes many other changes to the festival. The festival will propose, "Early arrivals to be able to park up from 9.00pm on the Tuesday and Campervan and caravan areas to be open from noon on Tuesday."

It also states that "All vehicles must be off the site by 5.00pm on the Monday, with an extra car parking for 5,400 cars also made available."

Here is my favourite shot that the official website has posted over the past couple of days.

Why U2 Headlining Glastonbury Isn't That Bad

U2 were the first headlining act to be confirmed for Glastonbury festival 2010, and for many this was a huge blow. Respectively, for many it was fantastic news!

Personally, I don't like U2 at all. So along with the rest of you I was less than happy to hear that they had gobbled up one of the precious 40th anniversary headline slots.

Through the course of the following few weeks after they were confirmed, many people commented on this blog and on our Facebook fan page, about their feelings of the confirmation and how they were bitterly dissapointed.

At first I agreed, and felt myself drifting into the bubble of hatred, until I realised something very simple that left me feeling a lot better. Its Glastonbury festival.

Ok so the first headlining act that has been confirmed is not to your taste....so what? There are hundreds of other things to do at Glastonbury that will keep you entertained.  From activities to other stages, to the cider bus; there will always be something else to do, and whats more its going to be the biggest Glastonbury bash ever!

Hell if I don't like all three headlining acts I still won't be dissapointed any more, because there will be bands there that I will want to see, there will be other stuff happening, and there will be other ways of having an awesome festival.

So if your worried about the what you are going to do when U2 are playing, don't panic...its Glastonbury.

"We’ve gotta have Dizzee, I think that’s a given," she told BBC 6Music.

In the interview she also revealed information about this years line-up, stating that there will be many surprise performances:

"A lot of bands really want to play but because we’ve only got three nights to headline, I think a lot of people are going to be doing secret sets," she said. "There will be a lot of surprises, more than we’ve ever had.

Edit: Emily also said that Will Young "might be making an appearance," and Greenday will not be playing.

U2 Keen To Leave Mark On Glastonbury 2010

U2's guitarist Edge has announced that the band are keen to leave their mark on Glastonbury festival 2010.

He admitted to the Times that he had been sceptical of the "hippy thing" associated with Glasto in the past but added: "If we don't do it now, we never will."
